Having healthy skin is the ultimate dream. Wouldn’t it be nice not to worry about acne, large pores, discoloration, and wrinkles! Unfortunately, it’s rare that we are blessed with perfect skin, we have to earn it.
Poor skin health can be down to a number of factors. Things we can control like a healthy lifestyle and a skincare routine. Versus things we can not control, like the natural aging process.
I’ve dealt with bad skin since my teenage years and it can really affect your life. It’s embarrassing, painful and downright inconvenient. However a good skincare routine that includes sun protection and gentle cleansing have helped improve my skin immensly.
Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices will help increase your skins health. Let’s get started with my 5 tips for healthier skin!
Sun protection is the ultimate weapon against the natural aging process. Sun exposure can cause sun spots (aka freckles), wrinkles and more serious skin problems like sun cancer.
My number one tip is to always wear suncreen with an SPF of at least 15. Even if you think you’re not going to be in the sun, always apply sunscreen to protect your skin from Australia’s harsh elements.
Establish a Routine
Having a skin care routine that you follow each day is essential. Everybody’s skin is unique and establishing a skincare routine that works well for you is important.
I’ve established that I have very sensitive skin. I can’t use any harsh soaps because my skin will have a reaction. If you can’t establish what skin type you are yourself, consider going to see a skin care professional (aka dermatologist).
Wash your face
Washing your face is an important step in any skincare routine as it cleans away any dirt, bacteria or trace of makeup left on the skin. Spend the same amount of time cleansing your face, as you do brushing your teeth.
Wash your face twice daily (anything more is overkill), but remember to be gentle with your skin. Limit your shower time, avoid heavy soap, pat your skin dry and moisterise daily.
Staying hydrated is an important part of any skincare routine. As you’re probably aware your skin is primarily composed of water so it is important to flush your system of any bad toxins. The best way to do this is to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
A balanced diet is also vital for healthy skin. Eating a diet rich in fruites, veg, grains and protein is key. Avoid processed foods to look and feel your overall best!
